OUR TRIP TO AUSTIN, TEXAS

We went to Texas a couple of weekends ago for a wedding at Lake Travis, and spent a few days in Austin. It was my first trip, and as you would imagine the food truck scene, bbq, and taco situation was amazing. I wasn’t expecting much in the way of art, but happened upon a Nick Cave exhibit that was phenomenal. More on that soon.

Easy Tiger   |   The Liberty   |   East Side King    | Cheer Up Charlies   |   Epoch Coffee

Polvos | Torchy’s | Uchiko | J. Mueller

Austin Motel   |  South  Congress St    |  Mexic-Arte Museum   |   Nick Cave    |   Lake Travis

The first night we bar hopped around to several places, and in the morning had coffee and sweets nearby. The East Side King food truck was delicious and I especially liked the Thai Chicken Kaarage. We ate cheese dips and tacos, and had beers at 10am while waiting in line for brisket at J. Mueller. I think I might be spoiled on brisket now. Uchiko was some of the most interesting and delicious sushi I’ve had in a while. The yokai berry (atlantic salmon, dinosaur kale, asian pear, yuzu) is a dish I’ll be thinking about for months. Other notable spots were East Side Showroom, the burger at Casino El Camino, vintage shopping, and the Statesman Bat Observatory was pretty cool. So that’s the gist. Southern hospitality and lots of fat boy eating!
